The Chaput laboratory in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of California, Irvine is seeking to hire skilled technicians that can support ongoing research activities in oligonucleotide therapeutics. The position provides a unique opportunity to gain experience in a highly interdisciplinary research program aimed at establishing future therapeutic modalities. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Oligonucleotide synthesis and purification, analytical measurements, bacterial and mammalian cell culture, maintaining laboratory instruments and equipment, tracking and organizing consumables and reagents. Establishing and following experimental protocol. Writing, updating, and distributing protocols, plans, summaries, and reports. All candidates will be expected to maintain best laboratory practices and promote a safe working environment.
Compensation Range:
$20.64 - $22.28

Previous laboratory experience.
Graduation from high school or a General Education. Diploma and two years of laboratory experience or two years of college including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences and one year of laboratory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
Excellent written and oral communication skills. Strong listening skills. Strong ability to read, write, and converse fluently in English. Ability to adhere to all experimental protocol and good laboratory practices. Ability to maintain detailed paper and electronic records of experimental data. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including staff, faculty, and students. Ability to work independently and as a team. Willingness to take initiative and perform some work independently, within the scope of the job description and laboratory goals.
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or a related field of science.
One or two years working in a laboratory environment will be necessary to be able to perform the required tasks at the expected level. Previous training and experience in an independent scientific laboratory. Previous experience using expensive, delicate equipment. Willingness to learn new instrumentation and equipment.
Special Conditions Required:
Occasional work outside Monday-Friday 8am-5pm may be required.
