The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for a full-time academic appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or full Professor level to serve as an Associate Director of Transfusion Medicine. The academic appointment may be in the Health Sciences (HS) Clinical or Clinical X series, depending on experience and extent of research effort. Both HS and Clinical X faculty provide patient care; teach fellows, residents, and medical students; perform public and University service; and contribute to scholarly activities, but Clinical X faculty are expected to conduct more substantial research.

Candidates must have an MD or DO degree, be eligible for a California medical license, and have board certification/eligibility in Clinical Pathology and Transfusion Medicine. Applicants with additional practice experience or interest in therapeutic apheresis or hematopoietic stem cell processing/cellular therapy are strongly encouraged to apply. At the time of appointment individuals must hold, or be eligible for, a medical license in the State of California. 

The successful applicant will have a track record of working cooperatively and collegially within an academic and clinical environment and will contribute to the teaching, clinical service, and research missions of the department. Responsibilities include effective management of all administrative functions of an active Transfusion Service, including shared medical oversight of the Blood Bank, a Therapeutic Apheresis Program, and a highly successful Blood Donor Center that serves the Medical, Surgical, and Transplant/Stem Cell Services of a 400+-bed state-of-the-art tertiary/quaternary care hospital (Douglas Hospital) and multiple specialty services including an NCI-designated Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (CFCCC), Regional Burn Center, and the only Level I trauma center in Orange County.

Founded in 1965, UCI is a top hospital and top-10 public university in U.S. News & World Report and home to several NIH-funded centers, including the CFCCC and Institute for Clinical and Translational Sciences (ICTS).
