The Department of Pharmacy, consistent with the mission of Johns Hopkins Medicine, prioritizes teaching, research and patient care. At Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, the department is responsible for providing acute care pharmacy services for a diverse population of medical and surgical patients, with additional services provided in ambulatory clinics. Within the department, there are 17 acute care and ambulatory Clinical Pharmacy Specialists as well as 3 PGY1 Pharmacy Residents. Working collaboratively with Johns Hopkins physicians, nurses and other health care professionals, Clinical Pharmacy Specialists are responsible for the provision of clinical pharmacy services across a broad range of patient care areas including Anticoagulation, Ambulatory Care, Cardiology, Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, Infectious Diseases/Antimicrobial Stewardship, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Pain and Palliative Care, and Neonatal Intensive Care/Maternal and Child Health.

Reporting to the Pharmacy Manager of Decentralized and Clinical Pharmacy Services, the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Infectious Diseases and Antimicrobial Stewardship will support Infectious Diseases Consult Services and the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program by working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to provide specialized pharmaceutical care, review and report on medication safety concerns, develop and apply medication use policies, optimize order sets within the electronic health record, facilitate staff member competency, and participate in research activities at a hospital and health system level. This Clinical Pharmacy Specialist will also serve as a pharmacy representative to the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, and the Infectious Diseases Specialty Panel at the Johns Hopkins Health Systems’ Formulary Management and Medication Use Policy Committee.

The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Infectious Diseases and Antimicrobial Stewardship will serve as an expert resource for drug information and education for patients, students, residents, pharmacists, as well as other health care practitioners. The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist will serve as a preceptor for pharmacy students and residents in our ASHP-accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency Program as well as to PGY-2 Pharmacy Residents from the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Faculty appointments are available through affiliation with the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. Additionally, this Clinical Pharmacy Specialist will generate and support pharmacy research and scholarly contributions while seeking to assume a leadership role in the profession of pharmacy.

Required qualifications for this position include the completion of the Doctor of Pharmacy degree and a PGY-1 pharmacy practice residency. A specialized PGY-2 pharmacy residency in Infectious Diseases or relevant specialty training, or equivalent years of experience in practice is also required. BCIDP certification is preferred.
