D. E. Shaw Research is seeking scientists with experience in computational drug discovery or related areas to join our New York–based team. This is a unique opportunity to develop and work with transformative technology in a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment.
Areas of expertise relevant to our molecular dynamics–based drug discovery efforts include molecular modeling, machine learning, fragment–based drug design, cheminformatics, and medicinal chemistry. An ability to leverage experimental data to inform computational approaches would be a plus, as would knowledge of structural biology. Specific knowledge of any of these areas is less critical, however, than strong research skills, and a record of impact in drug discovery.
A successful hire will directly contribute to projects within our expanding portfolio of drug discovery programs, which we pursue both independently and in collaboration with leaders in academia and industry.

D. E. Shaw Research is pursuing long–term projects aimed at fundamentally transforming the process of drug discovery and achieving major scientific advances in the fields of biochemistry and molecular biology using high–performance computation for molecular dynamics simulations. We have developed multiple generations of the ANTON® special-purpose supercomputer as well as a variety of simulation tools that run on commodity clusters and GPUs.

D. E. Shaw Research is an independent research laboratory that conducts scientific research and technological development in the field of computational biochemistry. Our group focuses on the design of novel algorithms and machine architectures for high-speed MD simulations of proteins and other biological macromolecules, with the aim of significantly advancing the process of drug discovery. We have designed and developed multiple generations of ANTON®, a massively parallel supercomputer that executes MD simulations orders of magnitude faster than was previously possible. Anton has now simulated the behavior of a number of proteins for several milliseconds, revealing biologically and pharmaceutically relevant aspects of protein dynamics.
