Under the general direction of the Chief Pharmacy Executive UCSF Health, the Chief Pharmacy Officer (CPO) provides strategic direction, business plan development, executive level leadership, planning, organization and general management for all aspects of Pharmacy.
Works collaboratively with the School of Pharmacy, led by the Assistant Chief Pharmacy Officer (ACPO) of Education, direct medication-related education, scholarship and innovative models of care.
The incumbent provides the leadership and direction to develop, recommend and implement programs, policies and procedures, and standards. This position works in concert with senior leadership to strategically develop service line expansion opportunities, manage the initiation of developing new business enterprises and oversee the development and operation of all services as outlined above.
The CPO will be a visionary leader, a strategic thinker, an innovator, a change agent, an effective public speaker, an educator and an influencer. In collaboration with the School of Pharmacy, will be responsible for evaluation of new models of care and dissemination of scholarship at major medical meetings and in peer-reviewed medical journals.

The CPO is integral in driving the operational performance, achieving efficiency targets, and ensuring the highest integrity for the business operations across departments. The position develops, monitors, and executes short and long term strategic plans across all areas, engaging UCSF Health leaders and respective departments. This individual promotes program development and advises on the planning and expansion of services.
The position is accountable for the quality of care delivered to patients across the organization and must ensure that quality guidelines are properly adhered to and regulatory functions are closely managed. To provide quality care in a safe, convenient, timely and efficient manner, this individual supports the design and implementations of quality and safety initiatives to improve the quality of care delivered and achieve the standards of the top 10 hospitals in the US. The CPO also provides guidance to affiliate partners to share best practices and advise on critical pharmacy policies and standards.
The CPO participates in UC system-wide initiatives and works closely with the Chief Pharmacy Executive to advice on cost saving initiatives related to pharmaceuticals and business develop and looks for way to partner with other UC medical centers to improve delivery, service, and revenue.
This role provides vision, expertise, and leadership to plan, develop, and implement strategic initiatives, cultural transformation, best practices, and best-in-class technology for UCSF Health.
In collaboration with the School of Pharmacy will assume responsibility for the creation of a strategic plan and SWOT analysis for the Department Pharmaceutical Services. Creation of a unified scope of practice for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy assistants will be an expectation.
