The Clinical Pharmacy Manager, Specialty Pharmacy Clinical Services assists with maintaining the clinical business for UTMB Health specialty pharmacy services in accordance with departmental standards, internal and external reporting requirements, accreditation standards, and pharmacy laws and regulations. They would oversee the specialty pharmacy Patient Management Program to meet all specialty pharmacy accreditation standards and requirements from payers and manufacturers. The Pharmacy Manager provides oversight of pharmacy practice programs, medication use systems, and quality initiatives to detect, mitigate, and prevent medication adverse events and work to ensure medication use is aligned with evidence-based best practices and regulatory standards. The incumbent also works with interdisciplinary partners to deliver medication therapy management within patient care services and to ensure pharmaceutical care programs are appropriately integrated.
Specific duties include:
Serve as the primary point of contact for specialty pharmacy practitioners within the UTMB Health system. This includes soliciting clinic prescriber feedback and identifying enhanced or additional services to meet clinic partner needs.
Provide direct oversight of specialty pharmacy clinical services and clinical operations.
Provide direction to specialty pharmacy staff regarding all clinical patient management decisions and operations.
Oversee specialty clinical pharmacists to coordinate patient care activities for specialty pharmacy patients.
Participate in identifying and implementing quality improvement programs and continuous quality assurance initiatives to advance the medication use systems and promote optimal patient outcomes.
Oversee the initial and ongoing disease state and medication training of specialty pharmacy staff.
Identify medications and disease states that need initial and ongoing training to meet accreditation, certification, and payer requirements.
Monitor FDA reports of new specialty drugs and label changes and work with specialty pharmacy leaders and purchasing teams to maximize access to UTMB Health patients.
Consult with specialty pharmacy practitioners when feedback is necessary regarding patient management program updates and submit reports to the Quality Management Committee for review and approval.
Work with specialty and department leadership to integrate specialty clinical care with area and department needs and initiatives.
Contribute to accreditation maintenance and renewal along with associated quality improvement and assurance initiatives and metrics.
Perform direct specialty pharmacy patient care as needed based on area need(s).
Current, unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in the State of Texas
Doctor of Pharmacy degree with one-year residency or fellowship or equivalent clinical experience.
3 to 5 years’ pharmacy experience in specialty, ambulatory care, and/or Medication Therapy Management (MTM) experience with 1 to 2 years’ supervisory experience.
Pharmacy Supervisor - Infusion Pharmacy
To provide direction and coordination of all activities of an assigned area in the Department of Pharmacy.
MAJOR DUTIES / CRITICAL TASKS:
Performs all pharmaceutical care and drug distribution duties required of Pharmacist I and II level personnel.
Supervises and manages the operation of the assigned pharmacy areas, including inventory control, controlled substances record keeping, and maintenance of drug information reference materials.
Supervises, manages, orients, trains, and evaluates all assigned professional and supportive personnel.
Addresses problems while participating in various hospital patient care committees.
Develops and maintains departmental policies and procedures.
Ensures completion of monthly unit audits.
Prepares personnel work schedules and ensures adequate staffing when absences occur.
Interviews job applicants for vacant positions.
Develops proposals for new pharmaceutical care services.
Prepares work measurement reports and makes budget recommendations to the Director and the Associate Director.
Identifies appropriate internal controls for department; provides mechanisms to monitor and enforce compliance.
Performs related duties as required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from an accredited school of pharmacy and current license to practice pharmacy in the state of Texas. Three years of related experience required.
Outpatient infusion and home infusion experience preferred. PGY1/PGY2 Health System Pharmacy Administration graduate preferred.
