Provides strategic and tactical direction to the leaders of the pharmacy operations at the hospitals, centralized service locations and ambulatory care sites. Assumes responsibility for operational performance of pharmacy services spanning one or more Patient Service Areas.
Provides strategic and tactical direction to the pharmacy leaders throughout Advocate Aurora Health.
Engages the system pharmacy leadership team to formulate ideas, analyze problems, develop solutions and budget, and plan development operational activities.
Plans clinical programs, manages the implementation of programs, and evaluates program effectiveness.
Establishes effective working relationships and maintains open lines of communication with the physicians on staff. Maintains collaborative and cooperative communication and working relationships with hospital, service line and PSA leaders to ensure effective operations.
Ensures progress toward department objectives by establishing reporting systems, department performance standards, and methods to measure staff performance.
Ensures that utilization of all resources is optimal (i.e., staffing, supplies, room utilization, etc.). Recommends and institutes measures that result in greater cost effectiveness and efficiency in operations while ensuring high quality patient care. Collaborates with Purchasing to maintain contractual arrangements.
Supports research activities in the department and assists other medical modalities in their research ventures.
Engages department leaders to assure that inpatient pharmacy services are in compliance with accrediting bodies. Ensures compliance with all other applicable state and federal regulations. Enforces all procedures, policies, and standards to ensure consistent application and effective operations.
Oversees the establishment and monitoring of quality assurance (QA) standards across Pharmacy Services. Monitors and evaluates processes and takes action to correct problems or deficiencies that are identified. Develops and maintains medical QA processes to encourage physician participation.
Holds site pharmacy leaders accountable for meeting productivity, budgetary, employee engagement and patient outcome targets and standards by continually monitoring and adjusting plans as needed. Oversees and provides direction to site pharmacy leaders in development of annual budgets and monitoring the financial performance of pharmacy services. Assures preparation and maintenance of records, reports, and all documents, required for the administration of the department.
Licenses & Certifications
Pharmacist license issued by the state in which the team member practices.
Doctorate Degree in Pharmacy.
Required Functional Experience
Typically requires 15 years of experience in Experience in pharmacy operations, demonstrating responsibility for increasingly complex components of operations over time. Demonstrated ability to oversee large, sophisticated pharmacy operations. Advanced management degree and completion of a pharmacy residency are preferred
Required Management Experience
Includes 5 years of management experience in leading multiple sites and/or sites over a large geography. Demonstrated ability to lead other leaders

Advanced level knowledge of the advances in pharmaceutical practices. Exceptional interpersonal and team-building skills and demonstrated ability working successfully with physicians. Strong decision making and critical thinking skills. Significant successful high-level interaction with medical staff. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of leadership and staff. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint and Word) or similar products. Strong aptitude in human resource management. Ability to handle multiple demands simultaneously. Excellent presentation, analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and negotiating skills. Ability to understand the needs of a diverse population and a larger corporate structure. Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with internal and external strategic decision makers of all levels.
