This postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina is a 12-month, ASHP-accredited program that provides the resident with advanced training in emergency medicine. The purpose of this program is to build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in the specialty area of practice. PGY2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. Residents who sucessfully complete an accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care, academic, or other specialized positions, along with board certification, if available.
The PGY2 Emergency Medicine residency at Novant Health is designed to instill and develop the skills necessary to practice independently as a member of the interdisciplinary team. Upon completion, residents will have gained advanced knowledge in pharmacotherapy in emergency medicine, demonstrated their ability to work independently and efficiently on a healthcare team, developed confident leadership and strengthened communication skills, and enhanced their teaching, presentation, and research skills.
