Rutgers University Correctional Health Care (UCHC) is seeking a Director of Pharmacy for the Central Administration office located in Trenton, New Jersey. The Director of Pharmacy will be responsible for oversight of University Correctional Health Care pharmaceutical services and monitoring compliance of contract pharmacy, which includes contracts with the New Jersey Department of Corrections (NJDOC) and the Juvenile Justice Commission (JJC) and ensures standards of professional and ethical practices in the provision of pharmaceutical services within the institution are maintained.
Among the key duties for this position are the following: * Plans and directs the UCHC pharmaceutical program. * Responds to pharmacy related emergencies and incidents and the institution. * Develops systems to recognize and report possible synergistic, antagonistic or cumulative effects of drugs. * Dispenses pharmaceuticals when required and establishes satisfactory methods of drug distribution and control. * Provides consultation to medical staff regarding pharmaceuticals. * Orients, instructs and supervises medical staff on pharmacy and medication room procedures.
Minimum Education and Experience:
* Graduate of an accredited College of Pharmacy with a minimum of a B.S. in Pharmacy. * At least five (5) years of progressively more experience and/or demonstrated knowledge to perform the essential duties of the job, with at least three (3) years of Pharmacist experience in the practice of unit dose pharmacy operations.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Thorough knowledge of all applicable State/Federal laws, rules and regulations. * Working knowledge of personnel administration, physician and nursing consultations and inter-departmental relationships. * Outstanding human relations and leadership skills, and the ability to function in a team environment required. * Demonstrated knowledge is necessary of how to accomplish superior performance in a unionized environment.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
PHYSICALDEMANDS: Ability to move from unit to unit within facilities, and lifting of up to 20 pounds. Ability to implement Universal Precautions and Safety Precautions.
WORKENVIRONMENT: Able to function in a stressful environment and relate well to the patients, security staff and health care team members. A generally crisis oriented, secure environment working with adults, some who exhibit aggressive, threatening and assaultive behaviors. Entering and movement within the facility will be controlled by Correctional Officers.
* Must be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC), by the Juvenile Justice Commission (JJC), and adhere to all DOC and JJC requirements. * Must possess own vehicle or alternative means of transportation from one site to another. * On-call responsibilities.
