Oregon Health and Science University has an opening for a Staff Scientist at the Cancer Early Detection Advanced Research (CEDAR) center within the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute in Portland, Oregon. The Staff Scientist will help develop major scientific project initiatives in the laboratory and aid in overseeing the implementation and execution of projects, including: maintaining a high level of professional expertise in the field; supervising and providing guidance and mentorship to other scientists within the laboratory; designing and directing or executing experiments; establishing laboratory procedures and systems that enforce and maintain a high level of organization in the lab. The Staff Scientist will conduct cancer research focusing on areas of early detection of aggressive tumors, biological basis of cancer transformation and cancer biomarker discovery for use in clinical assays. The Staff Scientist will apply a range of Molecular Biology methods involving DNA, RNA, and protein analysis to study cancer initiating events in cell culture and animal (mouse) models of common human cancers. The Staff Scientist will use techniques such as mouse embryonic stem cell cultures, mouse colony management, genetic manipulation of cells, ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, whole genome bisulfite-seq, and CRISPR-Cas9 gene disruption methods.
