Responsible for supporting the Head of the Business Franchise (BF) and the Franchise Leadership Team (FLT) in overall development and implementation of strategic priorities to meet annual BF financial and business objectives and 3-5 year strategic business plan. The primary responsibility is to coordinate the overall operations of strategic and tactical decision-making. - The ideal candidate is passionate about both strategy and execution and is able to translate strategy to impact. The Director, Franchise Business Operations plays a key coordination role between the core BF functions of sales, marketing, commercial acceleration (insights), finance and market access, patient services, and among the cross-functional FLT to ensure effective implementation of the annual BF business plan and achievement of annual BF objectives.
- In addition, the Director partners closely with the wider franchise team on performance monitoring, cross-functional implementation of resource allocation, and analysis & utilization of customer insights. The director drives operational execution of 1-2 key commercial innovation initiatives and cross-functional task forces to accomplish top business priorities.
- This person will be a self-starter, problem-solver, eager to change and ready to challenge assumptions. The individual is a skilled influencer and is able to interact with various levels of seniority, within and outside of the IHD Franchise and Novartis
Strategic Planning, Forecasting, Reporting and Decision Support - Develops strategies and objectives to maximize BF performance and support NPC goals, and consults with FLT members to ensure alignment
- Leverages knowledge of the business challenges, industry best practices and the external environment to proactively identify opportunities and formulate workable, innovative solutions
- Ensures business reporting and clear communication of progress of the BF objectives
- Leads Investor Relations & Earnings for BF, including input into the Global Reporting Processes
- In conjunction with commercial teams, locally and globally, develop brand forecasts; work to gain senior leadership approval for both the strategies and forecasts
- In concert with Finance, Commercial Acceleration, and Marketing and Sales Heads, develops financial budgeting, tracking and control of operational budgets
- Promotes cross-functional alignment and collaboration in key strategic planning processes such as IPS, Budget and 3-5 year Strategic Plan
- Supports the BF Head & FLT to prepare content and materials for US and Global Pharma Executive Committee meetings and business reviews, including analyses and recommendation
Business Franchise Operations Coordination - Proactively monitor business performance in collaboration with finance, analytics, marketing, sales and access; recommend solutions and course correction tactics as needed; develop reporting mechanisms and key indicators to clearly communicate BF performance
- Manage leadership team meetings and decision-making forums within the BF to drive decision-making at the right level and ensure process is streamlined; make recommendations and changes as needed; ensure agendas are focused on key issues/initiatives
- Gathers operational best practices/lessons learned to share with the FLT to improve planning and execution. Documents learnings and incorporates into the overall operational process to increase efficiency and effectiveness of projects
- In collaboration with administrative & P&O team, organizes off-site meetings and monthly leadership team meetings, ensuring focus on most important culture and strategic / operational topics.
Project Management - Leads or coaches special project teams, or in ad-hoc task forces to drive key business initiatives (e.g., field force expansion/structure, customer segmentation, etc.).
- Develop project plans, assign resources, requests and review periodic updates (accomplishments, upcoming deliverables and issues, actual vs. baseline)
- Provide project plans and updates to key stakeholders/senior management to ensure objectives are being met and on track for implementation
- Document lessons learned throughout all phases of the solution development and implementation
Business Leadership - Acts as a culture champion, catalyzing cross-functional collaboration, experimentation without fear of failure, deep focus on customer insights, and strong trust across team members
- Promotes the BF internally and externally as a great place to work
- As an active member of the FLT, works and partners to attract, motivate, retain and develop talent and build a culture of high performance teams
