TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I , Mechanical Engineering(50% at MIT, 50% at Brigham and Womens' Hospital-see below) , to join a multidisciplinary group of researchers and staff in the Traverso and Langer Labs developing novel transdermal and implantable systems for long-term delivery of contraceptive and biologic drugs. Will plan and execute experimental protocols to formulate and characterize drug compounds; plan and execute experimental protocols to fabricate and test drug delivery devices; characterize performance of drug formulations and drug delivery devices in small and large animal models; analyze experimental results using statistical methodology; summarize, document, and present research results/findings; perform reagent procurement and record-keeping; ensure safety standards/procedures are followed, prepare lab for inspections, and correct problems; and communicate, interpret, and provide training on lab policies.
Job Requirements REQUIRED : B.S./B.A. in a relevant scientific field (i.e., chemical, biomedical, or mechanical engineering; pharmaceutical science; chemistry; biology; or biochemistry); two years of experience working in a laboratory environment (which may include experience gained at the undergraduate level); demonstrated commitment to producing accurate and high-quality data; experience operating and maintaining technical instruments/equipment; comfort summarizing, reporting, and presenting results to researchers; strong organizational, time-management and documentation skills; willingness to learn new scientific tools and techniques; ability to work independently and as part of a team; and awareness of basic safety issues and ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment. PREFERRED : experience with drug formulation, polymer synthesis, device prototyping using mechanical engineering, and/or microfabrication techniques; experience working with laboratory animals; and experience with in vitro analytical methods and assays (e.g., ELISA, RT-PCR, ICP, SEM,HPLC, LC-MS).
