The Role

The Associate Accounting Director, US role is responsible for the management of the accounting function in the US.  The role will have primary oversight of the financial statements of the US legal entity, oversee the US closing process, and coordinate the US implementation of new accounting standards (in conjunction with the External Reporting Team).  The role reports to the VP, Accounting Operations and will have two direct reports:  a Senior Accountant and a Payroll Associate in the United States.  This position will also work closely with the Director Accounting, Europe.  

Responsibilities

• Review and develop written policies and procedures, including internal control documentation
• Ensure accounting policies are implemented and are being followed to ensure SOX compliance. Develop and implement a quarterly checklist and self-audit program to ensure controls are consistently performed
• Maintain and publish the monthly, quarterly and annual global close checklist and ensure all required steps are performed
• Ensure the accuracy and completeness of the US financial statements
• Participate in internal and external audit reviews as needed, and fulfill audit data requests
• Identify and participate in process improvement projects as needed
• Participate in ERP and systems implementation projects as needed
• Work with the External Reporting Team to lead the implementation of new accounting standards, and research and resolve identified accounting issues
• Perform global accounting procedures for specified technical areas, which will be assigned on a rotational basis. Such areas may include, but are not limited to, lease accounting, stock-based compensation, accounts receivable, accounts payable, intercompany accounting, prepaids and accruals, cash and marketable securities, fixed assets and intangibles, etc.
• Review and approve designated account reconciliations and analyses
• Supervise, train and motivate accounting staff
• Oversee the US payroll process. Ensure all procedures, including period-to-period reconciliations, are performed.  Review and approve payroll processing results
