Department: Chemistry Admin - 32320 Brief Summary of Work for this position: The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applications for a full-time lecturer in organic chemistry. This is a nine-month, non-tenure track position beginning in the Fall 2021 Semester. The position can be renewed on an annual basis. Responsibilities include teaching four courses per semester, especially organic chemistry lecture and laboratory, but also other introductory chemistry courses; serving on departmental committees as necessary; academic advising; and mentoring undergraduate students. The position also includes the opportunity for additional summer school teaching. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: A PhD in Organic Chemistry or a related area of Chemistry is required. Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience : -Preference will be given to candidates with a PhD in the area of organic chemistry. -Teaching experience in college-level organic chemistry is strongly preferred, as well as a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion in academic matters. Required Certifications or Licensure: No Required Certifications or Licensure Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit: Chemistry & Biochemistry at UNCW offers exciting, student-oriented programs that award Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (BS, ACS Certified) and Master of Science (MS) degrees. A significant portion of the training takes place in our laboratories, both those associated with courses, and those involving research in Analytical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Marine and Atmospheric Science, Biochemistry, Organic and Inorganic Synthesis, Computational and Physical Chemistry, Chemical Education, all of which incorporate our state of the are instrumentation (http://www.uncw.edu/chem/). In addition to rigorous courses in all aspects of chemistry, most of our undergraduate students and all of our local graduate students carry out research under the direct supervision of our outstanding faculty. College/School Information: The College of Arts and Sciences is UNCW's largest academic unit, employing 450 full-time and 150 part-time faculty members and awarding approximately two-thirds of the university's academic credits. Ours is a comprehensive arts & sciences college comprising the arts, the humanities, the mathematical and natural sciences, and the social and behavioral sciences.
