Qualifications APPLY NOW! In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of clinical laboratory experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional Clinical Laboratory Scientist; or I have successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in clinical laboratory science. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Specialized experience must include: professional knowledge in medical technology principles, practices, and concepts sufficient to develop, evaluate and modify procedures, and to recognize when additional tests are needed to confirm a diagnosis or determine the appropriate treatment plan, and to recommend those additional tests and procedures to the medical staff; knowledge and skill to perform complex and difficult tests in the section; knowledge sufficient to establish Quality Control, Quality Assurance and PM procedures for the section and to maintain, review, and revise operating instructions. This position has selective placement factors that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factors are: - You must be certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), American Medical Technologists (AMT) or other board of registry deemed comparable by the Center for Clinical Laboratory Medicine (CCLM) as a medical technologist (MT) or medical laboratory scientist (MLS); or be a commissioned laboratory officer in the Military Services, and have earned a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; and have at least 3 years of laboratory experience in high complexity testing and be certified by the ASCP, AMT or other board of registry deemed comparable by CCLM as an MT or MLS; AND
- Meet minimal conditions to be certified under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Program in accordance with 42 CFR 493.1461.

Education Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess: - A Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree from a regionally accredited college/university including courses in biological science, chemistry, and mathematics; AND have successfully completed a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time my degree was obtained. OR
- Successfully completed a full 4-year course of study that included 12 months in a college or hospital-based medical technology program or medical technology school approved by a recognized accrediting organization. The professional medical technology curriculum may have consisted of a 1-year post- bachelor's certificate program or the last 1 or 2 years of a 4-year program of study culminating in a bachelor's in medical technology. OR
- Have successfully completed a Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree from an accredited college/university, including 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of biological science (with one semester in microbiology), 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of chemistry (with one semester in organic or biochemistry), one semester (one quarter) of mathematics. (Note - All science and mathematics courses must have been acceptable for credit toward meeting the requirements for a science major at an accredited college or university.) AND have five years of full time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, microbiology, Immunology and Urinalysis/Body Fluids. (Note - Acceptable experience is responsible professional or technician experience in a hospital laboratory, health agency, industrial medical laboratory, or pharmaceutical house; or teaching, test development, or medical research program experience that provided an understanding of the methods and techniques applied in performing professional clinical laboratory work. Certification/licensure as a medical technologist (generalist) obtained through written examination by a nationally recognized credentialing agency or State licensing body is a good indication that the quality of experience is acceptable.) OR
- Are currently a federal employee assigned to a Medical Technologist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist 0644 series position as of September 2017.
