The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), located in Seattle, Washington, is part of a dynamic collaboration among three organizations known nationally and internationally for their patient care and research: Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, University of Washington, and Seattle Children's. Over the past 25 years, these institutions have worked together to support their mission of adult and pediatric oncology patient care services, research and education.

Under general supervision of the Pharmacy Manager, this position will maximize pharmacy reimbursement through third-party insurance billing and other programs that provide funding or provision of medication. Work closely with the clinical care team in obtaining medication for patients. This position will serve as backup for pharmacy technicians as needed for patient care, and be responsible for other duties as assigned.

• Interact with various third party payers to identify and correct ambulatory patient billing issues
• Reprocess denied or rejected third party claims. Evaluate patterns in denied claims taking corrective action and educating staff as needed.
• Completing Prior Authorizations
• Provide peer and co-worker education and training on changes to existing and new patient insurance coverage options to maximize our allowable reimbursements
• Review and correct discrepancies identified in daily, weekly and monthly billing reports
• Prepare SCCA Check Requests to address patient billing error refunds
• Develop and provide employee training to accurately execute on-line adjudication functions
• Liaison with Patient Financial Services
• Assist in the completion of patient private insurance forms when necessary
• Answer telephones and serves as a resource to patients and staff regarding billing questions
• Maintain patient confidentiality according to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and HIPAA standards
• Adhere to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance policies and procedures
• Organize and participate in multi-departmental billing meeting
• Perform the duties of a Pharmacy Technician 1
• Perform related duties as required

Required:

• High School Diploma
• WA state Pharmacy Technician Certification
• Completion of Pharmacy Technician Program
• Ability to communicate verbally in person, on the phone, and in writing in a clear, concise and professional manner
• Familiar with the generic names of drugs along with their basic indication
• Able to perform basic pharmaceutical calculations
• Ability to use a mouse, navigate computer programs, enter data into computer systems in accurately and efficiently
• Completing and submitting prior authorization forms and patient assistance applications
• Reprocessing denied or rejected third party claims
• Review and correct discrepancies identified in daily, weekly and monthly billing reports

Preferred:

• Ability to operate a Point of Sale system
• Experience with Electronic Medical Records
• Minimum of 2 years pharmacy billing experience
