This is a 2-year Post-Doctoral Fellowship that offers PharmD graduates the opportunity to understand market access, evidence generation and how informatics can be utilized to improve the communication of evidence to policy and payer decision makers. This fellowship is contingently slated to start in July 1, 2021.

The UNC/AESARA Market Access and Informatics Fellowship will prepare the fellow for a successful market access/communications career within consulting, managed care, academia, or biopharmaceutical industry. The fellow will have the opportunity to work directly with researchers in the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and personnel within AESARA, a leading health outcomes, market access strategy and communication company. The fellow will be based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina for both years of the fellowship.

During the first year, the fellow will dedicate 50% of their time working directly with faculty members within the Divisions of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education (PACE) and Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy (DPOP) at UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. While at UNC, the fellow will be exposed to how health outcomes can answer a variety of research questions. The other 50% of the fellow's time will be spent working with AESARA staff where they will gain exposure to market access consulting through a wide array of therapeutic areas and external pharmaceutical clients.

During the second year of the program, fellows will spend the majority (80%) of their time working with AESARA staff, with increased responsibility and an emphasis on client interaction and project management. They will continue interactions with UNC faculty and complete any on-going projects.

The fellow will develop behaviors and competencies needed to be successful in consulting, managed care and the biopharmaceutical industry. This includes exposure to the application and communication of health economics and outcomes evidence relevant to biopharma. The skills developed during these two years will position the fellow to effectively communicate generated outcomes and clinical evidence directly to decision makers as well as thoroughly understand the process and strategy behind evidence generation. Additionally, the fellow will have the opportunity to take graduate level coursework and work toward a professional Master of Science degree in Biomedical and Health Informatics. This online UNC program adds the flexibility to pursue a Master’s degree while taking part in a full-time fellowship program.
