James A Haley VA (Tampa VA) PGY2 Amb Care residency
The James A. Haley VA Hospital & Clinics provides comprehensive health care through primary care, tertiary care, and long-term care in areas of medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, spinal cord injury, neurology, oncology, dentistry, geriatrics, and extended care. JAHVH consists now up to seven facilities located in Tampa, New Port Richey, Zephyrhills, Lakeland, Brooksville, Lecanto, and Riverview (South Hillsborough) serving five counties in Central Florida. The Pharmacy Department boasts a progressive young and highly motivated clinical pharmacy staff that is committed to pharmaceutical care. This large teaching and research hospital provides specialized residency training for over 400 health professionals. Teaching is also provided to medical and pharmacy students through affiliation with several major state universities including the University of Florida, University of South Florida, FAMU, NOVA, and LECOM Colleges of Pharmacy. Residency Special Features: Resident will learn the clinical pharmacist's role in providing direct patient care in general and advanced specialty practice settings. This program offers flexibility providing direct patient care in a wide variety of clinical areas. There are twenty-eight non-dispensing ambulatory care clinical pharmacists to learn from. Clinic experiences provide several aspects of primary care (independent practice, medical home, home-base, community/rural) and several adult specialty medicine clinics to gain a full range of ambulatory care skills. Elective learning experiences are based on the goals of the individual resident and may include specialty clinics such as rheumatology, women's health, gastroenterology, nephrology, spinal cord injury, or cardiology among others. Oral and written communication skills are emphasized through active participation in staff development activities (pharmacy, nursing, medical) and regular resident conferences.
