PGY2 Critical Care (1 position):The critical care residency program at Holmes Regional Medical Center is a 12 month program offering core-learning experiences in medical, surgical, neuroscience, and cardiovascular intensive care as well as infectious disease, emergency medicine, and eICU. The program will be customized to promote achievement of the resident’s professional goals. As the first hospital in Brevard County, it has been serving the population since 1937. It features a level II Trauma center, the region’s only aeromedical helicopter (First Flight), a level II neonatal ICU, primary stroke center, and Health First VitalWatch, central Florida’s only electronic intensive care unit (eICU) which remotely monitors all ICU beds across the four hospital system. Holmes Regional has a 22 bed MICU, 22 bed SICU, 14 bed CVICU and 60 bed ER with 4 resuscitation/trauma bays. The Department of Pharmacy’s mission is to provide quality patient care by optimizing medication use and ensuring medication safety. Integrated throughout the hospital, the pharmacy team is committed to evidence-based medicine and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to provide the highest quality pharmaceutical services. Pharmacists are involved in physician-led critical care, trauma, and general medical rounds, cost savings and quality improvement projects, drug therapy surveillance, medication order entry, preparation and delivery and precepting of residents and APPE students. PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (1 position):Program Purpose at Health First A PGY2 health-system pharmacy administration and leadership residency builds upon PGY1 residency graduates’ competence in the delivery of patient-centered care and in pharmacy operational services to prepare residents who can assume high level managerial, supervisory, and leadership responsibilities. Areas of competence emphasized during the program include safe and effective medication-use systems, quality assurance and improvement, the management of human resources, the management of financial resources, use of technology, and advanced leadership. The residency lays the foundation for continued growth in management and leadership skills. Upon graduation, residents are prepared for a clinical or operational management/supervisory role in a variety of work settings. During the residency year, a combination of block and longitudinal learning experiences will be utilized. These experiences are variable in length, often overlap, and may be adjusted as needed. VitalWatch provides Health First’s critical care physicians, nurses and pharmacy specialist the ability to monitor real-time vital signs, laboratory results and complete electronic medical records of patients in various intensive care units at all four Health First hospitals from a central location. As the only state-accredited Level II trauma center in Brevard and Indian River counties, the Trauma Center offers 24/7 care with rapid patient transport via First Flight aeromedical helicopter.

Residents will be required to obtain licensure as a registered pharmacist in the state of Florida within 90 days of the program start date to continue employment. |
