St. Vincent Evansville Pharmacy Residency
PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions. The program will ensure residents are eligible for board certification and postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training. The PGY1 pharmacy residency will provide training experiences in the fundamentals of pharmacy practice in an integrated health system. Residents will gain experience in a variety of patient care settings including general medicine, critical care, nephrology, pediatrics and infectious disease. While developing competence to provide patient-centered care, PGY1 residents will acquire substantial knowledge for skillful problem-solving and strengthen their professional values. An individualized training plan based on the resident’s baseline level of knowledge, skills and interests will be developed at the beginning of the year. Along with clinical activities, residents will be required to staff the central pharmacy and complete year-long research projects.
St. Vincent Evansville PGY-1 residency is a one-year commitment designed to provide experience in practical application of pharmaceutical care in an integrated health system. Residents will gain experience in a variety of patient care settings including general and specialty areas of inpatient and outpatient pharmacy practice. The program is flexible to accommodate the interests of the resident in critical care, cardiology, pediatrics, infectious disease, administration, clinical informatics, and care transitions. Residents will complete research projects, provide education to medical and pharmacy staff, and precept pharmacy students.
