Post-Graduate Year 1 (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency
Children's Hospital of Philadelphia PGY1
The Department of Pharmacy Services at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia offers a one-year post-graduate year 1 (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency Program. The residency is designed to effectively enable the new practitioner to develop a solid foundation in problem solving and decision-making skills in multiple aspects of pharmaceutical care, allowing them to proceed on to practice pharmacy with substantial clinical acumen, and the ability to continue on to specialty training if desired. To facilitate the goals of the residency program the resident will complete the following required learning experiences: Hospital Onboarding / Orientation / Training, Drug Information, Pharmacy Operations, Acute Care (2 required experiences), Intensive Care (Cardiac Intensive Care, Neonatal and Infant Intensive Care, or Pediatric Intensive Care), Medication Safety, Oncology, and Pharmacy Administration and Management. Elective learning experiences include the Intensive Care experiences not completed as part of the program's requirements in addition to development of experiences in areas specific to the resident's interest. The PGY1 Pharmacy resident will also be required to complete at least 2 longitudinal patient care focused learning experiences over the course of the residency year, including options in Cystic Fibrosis Clinic, Nephrology Clinic, and Rheumatology Clinic and Specialty Pharmacy, though others may be developed based on the resident's interest and preceptor availability. Additional requirements of the PGY1 Pharmacy resident include activities pertaining to, or exercises in drug use evaluations, formulary management, reporting of medication safety events or adverse drug reactions, case presentations, journal clubs, educational presentations, participation in multidisciplinary committees, recruitment activities and research. The resident provides a service commitment to the hospital in the form of staffing a production area every other weekend (4 hours each on Saturday and Sunday) and staffing order verification one weekday evening (4 hours) every other week. The resident will attend the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting in December and the Eastern States Residency Conference in April or May of their residency year. The resident is also encouraged to attend local pharmacy meetings as well. Stipend and Benefits
