Sharp Memorial Hospital
Sharp HealthCare is a not-for-profit integrated regional health care delivery system based in San Diego. Sharp is comprised of seven hospitals, three medical groups, and a proprietary health plan, hosting a full spectrum of inpatient and outpatient facilities and services. At Sharp Memorial Hospital (SMH), our ASHP Candidate Status PGY1 Residency will help you develop your skills in providing effective pharmaceutical care in a wide variety of settings. This PGY1 residency program primarily trains pharmacy graduates in general acute care practice. The hiring and primary training site is located at Sharp Memorial Hospital, with secondary sites at other Sharp HealthCare facilities throughout San Diego County.
Through this healthcare system approach, the resident will obtain experience in multiple diverse patient care settings. The resident will have opportunities to practice and refine their teaching skills, research, and practice management skills through preceptorship of pharmacy students, conducting clinical research projects, and assisting in the integration and utilization of clinical pharmacists. A teaching certificate program is available through the San Diego Pharmacy Residency Leadership (SDPRL) Teaching Program. Six Sigma White and Yellow Belt certification is also offered. As a resident, you will work under the mentorship of pharmacy resident advisors and preceptors. This program will enable you to improve communication and leadership skills with health care professionals, pharmacy students and patients. You will participate in the development of your own residency plan, which will reflect your interests and build upon your previous experiences. Upon successful completion of our program, you will be equipped with the knowledge to become an asset to the pharmacy community. Core learning experiences:
