PROGRAM PURPOSE The purpose of the Wellstar Cobb Hospital PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program is to build on the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training. RESIDENCY PROGRAM GOALS The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program conducted by Wellstar Cobb Hospital in Austell, Georgia is accredited by the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP). The goal of this 12-month residency program is to provide extensive educational and training experiences for pharmacists in contemporary pharmacy practice in an organized healthcare system. The Wellstar Cobb Hospital PGY1 Residency Program will utilize the collective assets of Wellstar Health System (WHS) to accomplish this goal. The major job responsibilities of this position are clinical intervention, continuing education, drug distribution, leadership, patient education, and research. This program is designed to assure competency with the outcomes, goals, and objectives outlined in the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Accreditation Standards. In addition to the expectations outlined in the accreditation standards, graduates of this program will be able to:
LEARNING EXPERIENCES Required Elective Internal Medicine Ambulatory Care Infectious Diseases Cardiology Critical Care Academia Transitions of Care Pediatrics Emergency Medicine Neonatology/Women's Health Practice Management Medication Safety Drug Information Pain / Hematology / Oncology Research Consult Services: Anticoagulation/Pharmacokinetics/Parenteral Nutrition PHARMACEUTICAL SERVICES Wellstar Cobb Hospital Department of Pharmacy utilizes automated drug delivery units throughout the hospital. We have a Central Pharmacy, Operating Room (OR) Satellite, and Outpatient Infusion Center (OPIC). In addition, pharmacists have workstations on patient care units and participate in daily physician-led interdisciplinary rounds. We have a team that includes board certified clinical pharmacists who specialize in emergency medicine, critical care, transitions of care, infectious disease, pain management/hematology-oncology, internal medicine, neonatology, women's health, and drug information.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS In order to successfully complete the Wellstar Cobb Hospital PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program, the resident must:
APPLICATION PROCESS Wellstar Cobb Hospital participates in the ASHP Residency Matching Program (Program Code # 265313). The application process for the Wellstar Cobb Hospital PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program is as follows: • Register with the National Matching Service and the PhORCAS™ System: https://portal.phorcas.org • Submit required documents in the PhORCAS™ System • Complete the Wellstar Health System (WHS) application online: www.careers.wellstar.org All application materials must be submitted by 11:59 pm on January 7th. The WHS application will be screened and qualified applicants will be contacted to schedule a formal interview. Residency applicants must possess a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and be licensed in the State of Georgia by August 31st of the residency year. |
