Backus Hospital is part of the Hartford HealthCare, one of the Connecticut’s most comprehensive health care networks. Backus is an acute care, community hospital, licensed for 213 beds, with over 70 pharmacy employees. The Department of Pharmacy Services is focused on delivering quality pharmaceutical care. The pharmacy, open 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, also services the Plainfield Emergency Care Center, with a satellite location in the Plainfield Specialty Outpatient Center (Plainfield Infusion Center), and Windham Hospital. Learning Experiences The following are required core learning experiences:
The following are required 10 month longitudinal experiences:
The resident will complete 2 elective learning experiences, chosen based upon the resident’s interests and preceptor availability. Elective experiences may be available in areas such as: Infectious Diseases, Medication Management II/Transitions of Care, Critical Care II, Psychiatry as well as others. PGY1 Residents will be active participants in safety huddles, committees and project work, participating in quality improvement initiatives. PGY1 Residents will complete a Teaching Certificate program through the University of Connecticut and will be involved in preceptor activities.
