The Norton Hospitals PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program builds on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes. It contributes to the development of clinical pharmacists who are responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY-2) pharmacy residency training.
Accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists since 2009, our PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program is able to benefit from the depth and breadth of clinical pharmacy services offered by more than 100 pharmacists in the inpatient, community and ambulatory pharmacies throughout the system.
Each resident’s schedule is shaped to allow for progressive development of knowledge and skills and to best prepare them for the next step of their career. This residency program will provide the knowledge, skills and competence required for pharmacy practice within a healthcare-system; including medication-related care of patients in both inpatient and ambulatory settings. Rotational and longitudinal experiences encompass a broad range of pharmaceutical services including internal medicine, critical care, infectious diseases, oncology, pediatrics, and medical information systems technology. Residents will complete a longitudinal research project and obtain a Teaching Certificate. Opportunities exist to mentor and educate students through both didactic and practice based teaching. Graduates will be prepared to assume positions as pharmacist clinicians in a multi-hospital system environment or to pursue second year post graduate training in specialized primary care.
All pharmacy residents are eligible for full employee benefits of Norton Healthcare. Each PGY-1 resident is salaried and receives a stipend of $48,000 plus benefits. Each position requires a commitment of one calendar year. The estimated start date for PGY-1 is July 1. There are 6 PGY1 positions available.
