NCH HEALTHCARE SYSTEM PGY1 Pharmacy Residents
NCH HEALTHCARE SYSTEM
The postgraduate year one (PGY1) Pharmacy Practice residency builds on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training. Additionally, the resident will be mentored in the development of pharmacy leadership skills that will serve the graduate well in a variety of integrated healthcare systems. It is the overarching goal of the program for the graduate to be successful in multiple practice environments and build upon their foundation for enrollment into advanced training programs. Our program consists of a 12-month postgraduate curriculum that offers training opportunities in acute care, clinical services, medication safety, and pharmacy leadership. PGY1 residents take on the role of clinical pharmacists and provide care to patients in a variety of settings under the guidance of skilled preceptors. A major strength of the program is the number of instructors with many years of experience in various clinical specialties (e.g. oncology, critical care, internal medicine, surgery) and in the area of management and medication safety. Residents grow exponentially in their clinical skills and gain experience in teaching, pharmacy operations, and medication use policy and evaluation. The program places an emphasis on the provision of pharmaceutical care in many patient care areas. The NCH Healthcare System PGY1 Pharmacy Residency program has been fully accredited by ASHP. Two residency candidates will join our healthcare team and continue to help expand our educational programs alongside NCH internal medicine physician residents. They will be offered a competitive stipend as well as an additional generous housing stipend.
