At UChicago Medicine we are looking for a Director of Pharmacy for our adult inpatient services to help support out inpatient pharmacy and learner program.
As the Director of Pharmacy Adult Inpatient, you will be responsible for directing all operational, professional, and clinical activities for pharmacy operations in the University of Chicago Medical Center’s (UCMC) adult inpatient hospitals. The Director will be a hands-on and participative manager and be able to work across the UCMC health system. Primary responsibilities include implementation of policies and procedures that ensure the adult pharmacy provides optimal pharmaceutical services that are consistent with the scope of care. The Director will develop programs that ensure all pharmacy staff performs duties and responsibilities with the upmost consistency, safety, and excellence in drug distribution and clinical care. The Director will also support UCMC’s research and educational missions and improve programs with learners in conjunction with the Clinical Manager of Graduate and Undergraduate Education. The Director will also provide institutional leadership and representation in matters regarding adult care related to pharmacy.
Essential Job Functions:
Assisting the Executive Director Inpatient to establish the strategic plan for department services, include short and long term objectives.
Collecting and analyzing feedback on adult service/department effectiveness including all issues of medication safety.
Developing, interpreting, reviewing, and enforcing hospital and departmental policies and procedures; assure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements for pharmacy operations (e.g. FDA, DEA, Board of Pharmacy, Joint Commission)
Effectively managing the assigned area: plan, organize, coordinate, direct, and control all pharmacy service programs. Elements in that are; setting and maintaining standards for a safe, efficient, organized work environment; contemporary, exemplary adult pharmacy services to serve as a suitable environment for training of residents and students.
Implementing Managing for Daily Improvement (MDI) programs for both adult clinical and operational services.
Providing oversight and direction for all clinical services, including limited performance as a clinical specialist pharmacist (approximately one day per week).
Developing and justifying new pharmacy programs and services to improve patient care; developing and accomplishing annual objective for the area.
Supervising assigned pharmacists, technicians, and other support personnel in the performance of all duties. Oversee and coordinate daily operations. Allocating staff time to assigned activities. Coordinating hiring, orientation, training, performance evaluation process, scheduling, and disciplinary action process for all direct reports. Ensuring timely and accurate preparation and submission of payroll records for pharmacy staff.
Lead operational and clinical activities to improve pharmacy impact (improve workflow, advance patient outcomes, reduce waste, etc.)
Confers with the Pharmacy IT Department to develop informatics solutions for pharmacy information management systems, patient and department modifications, and inventory control.
Pharm.D. with PGY1 residency and an MBA or MHA or administrative residency preferred
Adult inpatient or ambulatory hospital experience (5+ years)
