Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist IV, for the Department of Bio-specimen Repository Services Department at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. Under direction from Bio specimen Repository Services, Section Head, the Research Teaching Specialist IV carries out research related clinical specimen collection and processing. The Research Teaching Specialist IV assists in protocol adaptation and administrative duties involved in following protocol requirements and regulations. Under direction from the Section Head, carries out research related specimen processing including immunohistochemistry techniques.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Assists principal investigators in the establishment/documentation of specimen processing procedures after review of clinical trial protocols.
Assists principal investigators in the justification for and purchasing of supplies/equipment needed for protocols requiring specimen processing.
Responsible for the collection and processing of clinical trial research specimens using established laboratory techniques.
Performs laboratory techniques specific for including but not limited to sterile technique, PBMC, and RNA/DNA extraction/isolation.
Participates in Phase I Tumor Study Group (TSG) meetings.
Communicates effectively with OHRS staff, principal investigators, pharmaceutical company representatives, clinic nurses and laboratory staff.
Develops flow sheets for the successful documentation of specimen processing data.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Master's Degree in Biology or a relevant science or a Bachelor's Degree in Biology or a relevant science.
One (1) year of related research experience.
Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirement.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Effective oral and communication skills.
Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
Understanding research protocols well enough to implement specimen processing needs and/or documentation of specimen collection and processing procedures is preferred.
Ability to follow and create laboratory SOPs in order to reach goals set by research protocols preferred.
