Reporting to the VP Accounting & Corporate Controller, Syros Pharmaceuticals is seeking an Assistant Controller to join a topnotch Finance team, which maintains the Company’s finance operations and compliance needs in support of a team that is dedicated to developing small molecule modulators of gene expression to treat cancers and monogenic diseases and bringing those therapies to the patients in need. The successful candidate will facilitate high risk areas of the financial close, be responsible for SEC reporting and monitor internal control compliance. Experience in SEC reporting, SOX compliance and technical accounting is desired.
Manage the monthly and quarterly financial close process to ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial results
Lead the preparation of high-risk areas of the financial close:
Clinical trials accruals
Stock based compensation
Other areas as assigned
Manage all aspects of SEC reporting as related to quarterly and annual financial reporting
Use the SEC reporting tool for preparation of SEC reporting documents
Oversee and maintain all aspects of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) internal control compliance
Interface and manage relationship and deliverables with the external advisors on all SOX work including updating, enhancing, and supporting the testing of the Company’s internal controls documentation and processes
Participate in enhancement of accounting policies and procedures
Prepare monthly and quarterly reporting to the debt provider
Manage the administration and accounting of Company equity incentive plans and systems including E-Trade and Computershare platforms
Review and approve bi-weekly payroll processing
Review payment packages in AP payment runs
Interface and manage relationship and deliverables with the external auditors on review and audit work
Oversee technical accounting research and documentation of the Company’s accounting on various complex accounting matters as they arise
Research and draft accounting memos for activities under existing and future collaboration agreements
Collaborate with the AP/Payroll and GL functions to provide technical accounting and operational support as needed
Provide oversight of requisitions in the purchasing system
Oversee management and administration of all Finance systems
Review legal contracts and statements of work for approval on behalf of the finance team
Lead quarterly Disclosure Committee meetings on financial aspect of SEC reporting
Provide training to the Company’s employees on areas of accounting and equity incentive plans
Cross-train with the other team members to provide backup to main accounting functions
Assist with special projects as they arise
Excellent written and oral presentation skills

Accounting degree with CPA certification
At least 8 years’ experience, preferably with combination of public accounting and Biotech industry experience. Big-Four public accounting experience a plus.
Experience and proficiency with Oracle Cloud Fusion a plus
Experience and proficiency with E-Trade a plus
Strong technical accounting skills and knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting
Ability to prepare quarterly and annual SEC filings
Experience with the development and maintenance of an effective system of internal controls and compliance with Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act
Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
Strong analytical and communication skills
Well organized and detail oriented
