Department: Baker Institute Position Summary: Founded in 1993, Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy has established itself as one of the premier nonpartisan public policy think tanks in the country. As an integral part of Rice University, the Baker Institute has a strong track record of achievement based on the work of its fellows, scholars, Rice faculty scholars and staff. The Institute collaborates with experts from academia, government, the media, business, and nongovernmental and private organizations. The mission of the Baker Institute's Center for Health and Biosciences (CHB) is to provide original, data-driven research aimed at improving the physical and mental health outcomes of local, national, and global populations. Enriched by collaborations at Rice University and with institutions at the Texas Medical Center, the CHB achieves this mission through its multifaceted points of expertise. The key policy areas explored by its fellows include the cost-effectiveness of health care, the social determinants of health, biomedical research and innovation, and pharmaceutical affordability and accessibility. The CHB strives to inform the general public, academia, and decision-makers in the public and private sectors with rigorous, nonpartisan analysis. Rice University's Baker Institute for Public Policy is seeking a senior fellow in health policy and director of the Institute's Center for Health and Biosciences to manage the CHB's team of researchers, coordinate the center's activities and strategic direction, develop productive collaborations, and lead related fundraising efforts. Responsibilities include supervising the research output of CHB fellows and affiliated scholars; managing the annual CHB budget including endowed and programmatic funds; and securing additional funding for new initiatives through sponsored research projects, major gifts, and the CHB membership group, the Health Policy Forum. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated competency in health policy as well as experience managing a research team and building connections with relevant individual and organizational stakeholders.
